Servant Evangelism Section
1 – The Guide
"Why does the Church exist?" We certainly exist to Worship God
and to grow in Wholeness and Christ likeness, to become Maturing
Christians. But how are we to do that? Jesus made it clear that we must
also give of ourselves if we hope to keep growing. The Great Commission
links God's special presence to the action of the Church going into the
world. "Go therefore and make
disciples... and lo, I am with you always" (Mt 28:19-20,
RSV). God is with us in an immediate sense as we carry His Life and Love
into the world. It's
like when Jesus washed the disciples feet at the last supper, we do the
same thing, only in a modern setting. His obedient service to others was. Human
nature always points the emotional compass inward. As the church, we
must point are emotional compass outward. Jesus promised that "rivers
of living water" would flow out of the “hearts
of all who believe in Him”. As we bring the Kingdom of God
into the community, we will change the community in which we live.
The entire Church is falsely looked upon as beggars and hustlers.
Always looking to get something for nothing. The watching world and
community has the Church having only one message, "Come in and
Join Us." They are not looking to be part of a failing cause,
and want nothing to do with fast-talking con-artists with slick
approaches. Having their hand out always for a donation for there cause.
As we begin to do humble acts of service in the community, we
will reinstate our identity. Instead of constantly judging the world, as
most Churchs. Being critical of who we take the Gospel too. We extend
forgiveness, acceptance, and love from God. We as Christians must get
beyond ourselves and serve our way into their hearts with GOD’s love.
The Church has been judged by the community for a long time as
being out of touch with people's real needs, hurts and pains. By doing
Servant Evangelism we show GOD’s love in a practical way. Servant
Evangelism is great for Cell Churchs.
You will be able to touch people’s hearts right where they
are at, by providing a FREE SERVCE!! with
NO STRINGS ATTACHED!! Missionaries
all over the World have been doing Deeds of Kindness (Servant
Evangelism) since the first Disciples were sent into all the world. Only
up until 20 years or so that a emphasis has been placed back on to it
and used by the Church to reach people to show GOD’s Love in a
practical way. “How
are we going to be able to do this?”.
The goal in Servant Evangelism is to shine the spotlight on God's
Kingdom coming in the Spirit of Jesus. God understood that
humility is one of the traits that get the attention of the human race.
As we give away deeds of humility we bring a similar influence into the
world. By
providing a Community Service showing GOD’s Love in a practical way.
The community will be saturated with the presence of these deeds and
acts of kindness. “Consider the long-term effects of this
approach”. We are truly saturating the Community with GOD’s
love. Servant Evangelism is so effective because: · easy to do
Conducting
a Successful Servant Evangelism:
Get together as a group and go over your Servant Evangelism
Project. Each project will have it’s own list of objectives and
materials. The Servant Evangelism card and what it should say. The signs
you put out for you community project. The group should have a
brainstorm session. This will give an opportunity for individuals to
share their ideas that can make the Servant Evangelism even more
successful. Some one may suggest a service to perform within the one you
are already going to conduct. Here’s one, a coffee can with sand in it
for customers that smoke.
It is also a good time to go over how you should conduct your
service. You will want to practice what you basically want to say and
how to perform the service. I know what your thinking, how are we going
to practice a car wash or hot dog grilling. Some of these you can but if
you can’t at least practice when you set up. At a car wash you do not
want a customer to leave with a streaked windshield. You will also have
children at some of these Evangelism Servant Projects. You will want to
get them involved. They may not be able to wash a windshield, but a
bumper or headlights they can. Practice for the unforeseeable problems
that may come up. “Remember
you are there to show GOD’s Love in a Practical Way” Tips for a basic Evangelism Project: · be prepared in Prayer both as a group and
individually Tips to remember for personal conduct and service: · learn this phrase, “We are conducting a
Community Project to show you GOD’s Love in a practical
way” This has been a perfected phrase that has been
successfully used by many doing Servant Evangelism over the years With
each Servant Evangelism project make up a card (business card size) to
leave with those served. The front may say something like “This is
a Community Project to show you GOD’s Love in a practical way”.
Can also be related to the Community Project that you are providing. On
the backside of each card there may be a map to your Church location
along with your service times and phone number.
You can have your own individual card. The front may say, like
“This is to show you GOD’s Love in a practical way” It would
say on the back your name and phone number. If you would like prayer or
need further information please call me. This is a great way that
GOD’s Gifts to an individual to be used. This would depend on the way
you want to do your Servant Evangelism Project. This would mostly appeal
to Cell Group Ministry. Suggestion: Carry cards with you, as you go about your daily activities. You will always be in contact with people who you can help in some way. Hand them a card. Remember Servant Evangelism is an action. Tips for making up Signs: · say what the Community Service
is · clear directions to were it is
at · must mention “That is FREE!” · big to read, usely poster board
size is good 22” X 28” · use colors, back ground a lemon
color with black letters · keep it simple Information in this article is from the following:
