Russian Orphan Care Ministry

      Operation Russian Orphan Care Ministry is a Christ centered Ministry to the forgotten children of Russia.  The Orphans.   Operation Russian Orphan Care Ministry's (ROCM) primary focus is on sharing the love and truth of Jesus Christ with children as well as adults, who so desperately need to hear about God's love for them.   

     At the same time, we want to put God’s love in action by providing critical humanitarian aid.  We travel to Russia  to hand-deliver humanitarian aid and Christian books to children in the places of greatest need — places such as  orphanages, boarding schools, hospitals, invalid societies, and even youth prisons. The aid opens the doors for ministry, allowing us to be used by G_D to give everlasting hope to the children by meeting them face-to-face and sharing the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.

      Since 2001, I have been traveling to Russia as an affiliate staff member as part of Operation Carelift with the Josh McDowell Ministry (www.josh.org).  After the summer trip of 2002,  my Christian brother Ken and I began discussing the idea of  doing an independent mission trip' back to the same city.   The thoughts of many children we had met in the past were really tugging at our hearts for us to go back.    We began praying.  The more we prayed,  the more we so strongly felt God's confirmation to lead us back on our own!  We were invited to come back  and worked along side a local church in Kaluga, Russia.  We had been to this church three times in the past and we knew about their fervent spirit of seeking the Lord,  not to mention their hearts for the orphan and street children of their city of Kaluga.   

     God led us to see some children we had ministered to in the past and many children that we have never seen before.  We visited many orphanages and a youth prison, brought many gifts, and most importantly the message of salvation, through the use of Gospel bead bracelets, was presented.  Almost every child at every placed we visited prayed to receive Christ into their lives.  The orphanage directors were so open to having us and the children were so happy that we came to visit them.   So many miracles of God were manifested and so many divine appointments were given to us that these could only have been from the Lord.  We knew then that we had a wide open ministry in Russia and felt that God was going to use us to minister to the hopeless situation of these children in a big way.   Most importantly, we have given these children a future by giving them hope.  

     We have personally witnessed the lack of attention and love in the lives of these children.  We go into these orphanages and see the desperation and the sadness in their eyes.  We tell them all about Gods love for them and pray with them to have a relationship with a God that loves them.  When we leave the sites we see the sadness turned to joy and hope.  It is such a blessing and an amazing experience!

Why there is such a Great Need:

     * There are more than 700,000 orphans living in Russian orphanages
     * 30 percent of Russian orphan graduates turn to crime (boys join the Mafia, girls become prostitutes)     
     * 60 percent end up jobless and homeless
     * 10 percent take their own lives
     * over 50% spend time in prison

      Children are living in orphanages with little hope for the future. These children are the innocent victims of social upheaval being felt throughout the world. As cultures change, as boundaries disappear and as political systems search for stability, countless children fall through the cracks and suffer in poverty, hunger and despair. Many children in orphanages are victims of abuse and abandonment.  Because of the economic hard times in Russia many parents will turn to alcohol or drug abuse.   They have little chance to grow up and join normal society and even less of a chance to hear about the love of Jesus.
